Manage Live Access Settings

The following two types of live access credentials can be configured in the system:

Shared Access Credentials

Private Access Credentials

Besides the above access credentials, you can configure more settings for live access, such as timeout during live access, SNMP hostname trimming, and credential type selection for change management and CLI login. See Configuring Live Access Advanced Settings for more details.

Shared Access Credentials

The shared access credentials are usually used to access devices in live access tasks for retrieving device data, such as discovery and benchmark.

The system provides two types of settings for shared access credentials:

Network Settings — store the shared access credentials of all your network devices. They are only accessible to the users who have the privileges of domain management and network settings management.

Shared Device Settingsstore the shared access credentials for an individual device. They are only accessible to the users who have the device settings management privilege.

To manage shared access credentials in the system, you need to:

1.Define necessary credentials in the Network Settings before a live network discovery.
In the first-time discovery for a network, the system polls the credentials to access devices until the access succeeds. The credentials with which a device is successfully discovered are recorded in the Shared Device Settings.

2.Tune Network Settings if there are credential changes.
You can check the reachability of live devices with credentials in the Shared Device Settings, or even update the Shared Device Settings by polling the credentials in the Network Settings.

3.Configure Shared Device Settings for an individual device if necessary.
The credentials in the Shared Device Settings are used in the live access tasks for data retrieval.

Private Access Credentials

The private access credentials are used for Managing Network Changes, and only accessible to the user who configures the credentials.

Note: By default, only domain administrators, power users, network change executors, and the users who have the privilege to create, execute or approve network changes can manage private access credentials. See Roles and Privileges for more details.

The system provides two types of settings for private access credentials:

Private Network Settings — stores all your private access credentials.

Private CLI Settings — stores the access credentials for individual devices.

To manage private access credentials in the system, you need to:

1.Define the private access credentials in the Private Network Settings.

2.Tune Private Network Settings to check the reachability of live devices with the credentials.
After tuning, the credentials with which a device is successfully accessed are recorded in the Private CLI Settings of the device.

Note: By default, the private Telnet/SSH login credentials and shared privilege credentials are tuned due to the default settings in Network Change Credentials Management.
