Method 1: Forward Engineering from Template

Forward Engineering from Template is designed for situations where you possess a Golden Config template and the target devices for its application. You can manually create the Golden Config template using static configurations, parser variables, and golden parameters. It is necessary to specify the representative devices of the template. Furthermore, you can define the applicable configuration instances for this template by setting specific criteria. The generation steps are as follows:

  1. Select Representative Devices by clicking +Add located next to the field and select the devices from the Select Devices window.
  2. Click Retrieve to fetch the configuration from the current baseline. Multiple instances will be retrieved from a device and listed in the instance column, allowing you to switch between instances.

  3. Go to Define and Test section to:
    1. Define the golden config using references to Parser Variable (<$name>) and Golden Parameter ($$name).
    2. Modify the Alert and Success messages.
    3. Apply-to-Devices.
    4. Configure the Apply to Instance condition.
    5. Select the devices to test and verify Golden Config.

  4. After defining the settings in Define and Test window, the information will be updated back in the Discover node.
  5. The Action column will be updated with a Candidate label, Golden config name, and the number of alerts generated from the last verification operation.
  6. Click Add to Golden to transfer the Candidate Config into the Golden Config.

  7. Upon successful addition, a label Golden will appear on the entry, indicating the template status.
  8. The last column will display the status as Golden Added.
  9. You can edit an golden entry accessing it from the bottom section.
