Ping

Using the Ping node, you can verify network connectivity between a Front Server and a device, or between two devices within a domain. You can configure and run a ping node as follows:

  1. In a runbook, open the Add Node dialog.
  2. Select Ping from the list of available nodes and add it to the runbook.

  3. Configure Source Device (From):

In the From field, enter a hostname (e.g., GW2Lab) to specify the source device or click the field to select a Front Server or a device from the domain.

Information Tip: When you select Auto Front Server, the Front Server configured in the Shared Device Settings of the destination device will be used. All configured Front Servers are auto-populated in the list. To select a different Front Server, choose from the list.
Information Tip: When selecting a device, its management interface is used as the default ping source. You can choose another interface if required.
  4. Configure Destination Device (To):

In the To field, enter a hostname (e.g., BJ*POP) to specify the destination device or click the field to select a destination device from the domain.

Information Tip: You can click the icon to add more From-To pairs. If the run setting is configured for repeat run, then all the From-To pairs will follow the same interval for repeat runs.

  5. (Optional) Click the icon to configure the following advanced settings, and click OK.

    • Timeout: Maximum wait time for ping responses.
    • Package Size: Size of individual ping packets to be processed before the results and averages are calculated.
    • Package Count: Number of ping packets to be processed before the results and averages are calculated.
    • Set no fragment flag in package: Specify whether to include the fragment flag when sending packets.
  6. Run the Ping Test: Click Ping to initiate the test. Results will appear in the panel below.
    • Use the drop-down list to switch between different From–To result views.

    • Click the item number to view detailed output for each pair.

    • Information Tip: To save a configured Ping node for reuse, hover over the node and click the icon to select Save as Favorite.
