Resolving Unknown IP Addresses

Unknown IP refers to the IP addresses of the devices that are discovered from seed routers but cannot be accessed by using Telnet/SSH or SNMP.

The table lists the Unknown IP reasons and their solutions depending on the possible causes. Contact NetBrain Support Team for further assistance.

Solution

Ping Failed, SNMP Failed

The IP addresses that NetBrain cannot Ping and fails to access via SNMP.

1.Rediscover the IP addresses.

2.Check whether the front server status displays as Connected in Network Settings > Front Server.

Ping Succeeded, SNMP Failed

The IP addresses that NetBrain can Ping but fails to access via SNMP.

1.Rediscover the IP addresses.

2.Check whether the correct credentials are selected in Network Settings > SNMP String.

Don’t Support CLI

The IP addresses that don't support Telnet/SSH access.

Check whether the corresponding device type supports Telnet/SSH access.

1.Navigate to Tenant Management > Muti-vendor Support > Device Type.

2.Edit the device type to confirm whether the Telnet/SSH is checked in Supported Operation.

CLI Connection Failed

The IP addresses that NetBrain fails to access via both SNMP and Telnet/SSH.

Check whether the network delay leads to a timeout.

CLI Non-privilege Login Failed

The IP addresses that NetBrain fails in Non-privilege Login.

Check whether the Telnet/SSH Login credentials are incorrect.

CLI Privilege Login Failed

The IP addresses that NetBrain fails in Privilege Login.

Check whether the Privilege Login credentials are incorrect.

CLI Configuration Retrieve Failed

The IP addresses that NetBrain can log in via Telnet/SSH but fails to retrieve CLI configurations.

Check whether the configuration is too large to retrieve.

CLI Configuration Update Failed

The IP addresses that NetBrain fails to update the CLI configurations retrieved via CLI.

Check Discovery Report to see whether there are parser parsing issues.

SNMP Configuration Update Failed

The IP addresses that NetBrain fails to update the configurations retrieved via SNMP.

Check Discovery Report to see whether there are parser parsing issues.

Others

The IP addresses that NetBrain fails to fully access due to other factors except for the above 9 situations.

Tip: If you deploy an MPLS in your network without PE router configured, the IP address of the connected PE router interface may be discovered through the CE router and added into the unknown IP list. In this situation, you can manually add this IP address as an MPLS cloud. See MPLS Cloud for more details.

Tip: The Source Device column in the unknown IP list refers to the devices from which the unknown IP addresses are discovered from. And the devices are also called edge devices.
