As a network engineering manager, you’re responsible for keeping the network running smoothly—but between manual troubleshooting, configuration drift, and evolving business demands, it’s easy to fall into reactive mode.
What if you could get proactive by:
✔ Instantly discovering every unique rule and policy in your network—without manual audits?
✔ Spotting misconfigurations before they cause outages—across your entire network?
✔ Assessing your network daily so your team isn’t in the dark?
That’s exactly what NetBrain Next-Gen delivers—a turnkey way to discover, diagnose, and defend your hybrid network with zero scripting required.
Manual documentation and static assessments are outdated the moment they’re produced. Instead of undocumented tribal network knowledge, NetBrain gives you:
✅ A real-time digital twin of your entire network—on-prem, cloud, SDN, and containers.
✅ Automatic rule discovery, so you know exactly where QoS policies, security filters, and routing behaviors are applied.
✅ Actionable insights, like:
“38 devices use ACL 195 for VoIP QoS—but 6 have the wrong policy.”
“This security filter only applies to 3 subnets, not 5 as intended.”
No more surprises. No more undocumented changes.
A modern network automation platform should offer real-time discovery and assessment of your entire infrastructure—on-prem, cloud, SDN, and containers—delivering a live, actionable view of the network, always.
NetBrain’s real-time digital twin captures device configurations, connectivity, traffic paths, and more forming the foundation for scalable network automation.
Reverse Engineer Your Network’s DNA: Policies, Configurations, and Rules
Imagine a network as a living organism, composed of tens of thousands of devices, each carrying its own policies, configurations, and intents. NetBrain translates these into network-wide features, ensuring consistent operational performance to fulfill business objectives.
Importantly, these features are not limited to a single device; rather, they are often distributed across many devices, each carrying a unique strand of the network’s DNA. For instance, if one device is configured for BGP, it’s highly likely that others are as well, like essential protocols such as QoS, multicast, redundancy, HSRP, VRRP, and more. This interconnectedness ensures that the network functions cohesively and effectively.
Knowing the network’s features allows NetBrain to discover its unique rules such as, ACL192 is controlling the QOS policy for VOIP traffic or this particular security filter.
Then, using these features, we also learn the states of those set designs, which we can use to code all the states of the network, baseline them, and then identify deviations from what normal is.
For example:
By analyzing these features, NetBrain uncovers unique rules.
Networks are constantly evolving. Engineers come and go. Configurations change. Over time, even the best-designed networks accumulate inconsistencies that lead to:
Every network is built on a foundation of business-driven intents, rules, and configurations—each shaping a unique design. Over time, these designs evolve, creating complexity that can obscure visibility and lead to hidden risks.
NetBrain’s Rule Discovery (introduced in version 12.1 as part of Golden Assessment) deciphers your network’s unique logic, transforming configurations into actionable intelligence. Paired with the downloadable Golden Assessment Library—a repository of industry best practices and past customer insights—it proactively identifies potential issues before they impact operations.
1. What unique rules exist in your network?
Custom configurations that define your network’s behavior—such as:
2. How many devices follow these rules?
Example findings:
This quantifies adoption and highlights outliers.
3. Where are the inconsistencies?
If 43 devices should have ACL 190 on class map signal, but 6 deviate, is this intentional—or a legacy misconfiguration? Rule Discovery detects these drifts, helping teams enforce consistency.
NetBrain helps you:
✔ Identify Day-1 misconfigurations—catching errors before they cause outages.
✔ Track historical drift—revealing changes made by hundreds of admins over time.
✔ Automate compliance—converting discovered rules into observability dashboards and scheduled assessments to ensure continuous alignment with intent.
Intent-based automation starts by defining what “good” is. Using the discovery, NetBrain helps you identify Day-1 issues, drifts that have occurred over the history of your network, hundreds of people that have managed it, operated, changed it, and then be able to build them into automation, view in observability dashboards, and schedule it and assess it every day, every week, to make sure that those intense and what’s golden stays golden to prevent outages caused by these drifts.
The downloadable Golden Assessment Library (GAL) contains hundreds of pre-built assessments with industry knowledge from Cisco (Business Critical Service), NetBrain, and trusted partners, to run network-wide “Golden Assessments” continuously to prevent outages proactively across your hybrid-cloud network. It enables you to automatically analyze your network against past and real-world outages.
Once defined, these golden rules serve as a benchmark, proactively detecting deviations and configuration drift across the network. The result is continuous compliance, without the overhead of manual scripting.
The Golden Assessment Library (GAL) gives you pre-built checks based on real-world outages—so you don’t have to worry. It enables operations teams to:
✅ Automatically detect all golden configurations and states in your infrastructure.
✅ Proactively flag deviations and misconfigurations—alerting you on Day-1.
✅ Maintain continuous compliance, reducing risk and downtime.
✅ Prevent Network Outages—Run continuous assessments (daily, weekly, or on-demand).
✅ Leverage industry-wide outage knowledge—built on industry-wide knowledge from Cisco (Business Critical Service), NetBrain, and trusted partners.
✅ Automatically detect risky changes—like unauthorized ACL modifications or missing redundancy protocols.
Result: Fewer post-mortems, fewer audit failures (and prep time), and more time for strategic projects.
Every closed ticket is a lesson learned—if your platform can remember. By analyzing your ticket history and applying GenAI-driven diagnostics, automation can now resolve common issues before they escalate.
Automated troubleshooting runbooks contain automation that not only reduces MTTR, but it also ensures that your most experienced engineers aren’t stuck repeating manual diagnostics for known issues.
Our Playground shows you immediate value using your own data in the hosted multi-tenant environment.
Import CLI and/or config files easily to map your entire network, get inventory reports, post-mortem and Day-1 assessments, dashboards, and more!
Instead of stitching together tools, this approach provides a ready-to-deploy framework for intelligent operations.
Automation shouldn’t require custom scripts, developers, or endless integration work. A turnkey solution enables every engineer to contribute, ensures consistency, and defends against both outages and operational complexity.
It’s time to elevate your network operations—starting with a platform that’s already built to deliver.
